What Are Luck Cycles?
While your natal chart (Ming 命) is fixed, your Luck Cycles (大运, Dà Yùn) change every 10 years. Each cycle brings a new "season" to your life — different energies, opportunities, and challenges.
How Luck Cycles Work
Each 10-year period is governed by a single pillar (Stem + Branch). This pillar interacts with your natal chart, activating or suppressing different elements:
- A Resource luck cycle may bring education, support, and stability
- A Wealth luck cycle may bring financial opportunities
- An Officer luck cycle may bring career advancement and responsibility
- A Seven Killings cycle may bring major challenges — and breakthroughs
- An Output cycle may bring creativity, children, or self-expression
Reading Your Luck Cycles
When looking at your luck cycles, consider:
- What element does the cycle bring? Is it favorable for your Day Master?
- What Ten God does it represent? What life area does it activate?
- Does it clash or combine with any natal pillars?
- Is it the same as your Day Master? (Peer years can be competitive)
Timing Strategy
The wisdom of BaZi isn't just knowing what will happen — it's knowing WHEN to act:
- Strong favorable cycle: Launch big projects, take risks, expand
- Weak favorable cycle: Build foundations, prepare, learn
- Strong challenging cycle: Consolidate, protect, be patient
- Weak challenging cycle: Rest, reflect, avoid major decisions
